Finishing What We Started

Hi dancers!

It’s been a long time since I’ve written a blog post, but just felt called to sit down and write this one. 2020 has been a roller coaster for all of us-myself included. It started off with the loss of hearing in my left ear, and then Andy and I were so excited to share with you all the news of our baby girl due in August! Amidst all of that, we-like all of you-are adjusted to being quarantined and the reality official distancing.

At ABDC, we’ve always believed that teaching dance is about more than just the steps. Dance lessons are life lessons, and what’s learned in the studio is way more than just how to step touch and kick ball change, and that’s become clear now more than ever. What quarantine can’t change is the freedom of expression that dance gives us, the community that the studio houses (whether online or in person), and the life lessons that are learned.

One of those life lessons is the importance of finishing what you start. Many years ago, our Platinum competition team took the stage, only to have the music stop when they were about 40 seconds in to their dance. Every single one of the dancers continued on like nothing had happened, until the MC called them off stage to figure out what happened with the music and start again. I have no doubt that they would have finished the entire dance in silence if the MC had let them. This is one of the first things you learn as a dancer-no matter what, the show must go on!

And that is exactly what we are doing now-going on with the show! While it’s frustrating for me not to have all the answers (I’m a planner!), the music has stopped, and we must keep going. One step at a time, and eventually the music WILL come back on-that we know for sure.

I want to, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all your support and kind words during this time-we don’t know exactly what the future holds, but we do know that we will finish strong together. <3

Much love,

Miss Eden
