Competition Team

ABDC offers a competition team program for dancers entering grades 1-12.  We work hard to foster a team environment that encourages good sportsmanship, teamwork, fun, and hard work!  Depending on the age of the dancer and the team, competition team members take classes in ballet, jazz, and technique, plus rehearse weekly with their team.  Our program focuses on creating well-rounded performers, who also value the impact that dance can have on the community.

One of the core values of ABDC, and our competition team program, is community service.  Our dancers perform a holiday show at local nursing homes and on the Beacon Santa Telethon.  They also fundraise throughout the year as a HOPE STUDIO for Dancers Against Cancer, an organization that provides financial assistance to members of the dance community impacted by cancer.  They build relationships with all team members through our Team Sibling program, and create lasting friendships.

Our team members attend competitions and conventions throughout the school year, and well as performing at various other local events.

ACCELERATE COMPETITION TEAM

Each level builds on the next, supporting consistent growth and development. We prioritize gradual progression so dancers can improve safely and sustainably, reducing burnout and minimizing injury risk.

PETITE TEAM (grades1-3)

Young dancers excited about dance and building a strong foundation in a fun, supportive team environment. Focus includes basic skills and connecting steps, coordination, balance, simple turns, introductory leaps and jumps, strength, flexibility, and musicality, along with developing stage presence and classroom structure. A positive attitude and willingness to try their best are expected.

JUNIOR TEAM (grades 4-6)

Dancers continuing to build technique and confidence while developing strength and flexibility, with the ability to execute basic connecting steps. Dancers will work toward consistency in single and double pirouettes, improving jump height, and developing leg extensions, leg holds, and battements. Emphasis on growing stage presence and performance quality. Commitment to working hard, staying focused, and supporting teammates is expected.

TEEN TEAM (grades 7-12)

Dancers developing strength, control, flexibility, and consistency in technique, along with stronger movement quality. Dancers will work toward consistent execution of single, double, and triple pirouettes, greater jump height and control, and strong, controlled leg extensions, leg holds, and battements. Emphasis is placed on confident and consistent stage presence and performance quality. Commitment to working hard, staying focused, and supporting teammates is expected.

SELECT TEAM

For dancers who demonstrate a strong technical foundation and have the strength and flexibility to safely train more advanced skills. Dancers should show consistency with double or multiple pirouettes, height and control in leaps and jumps, strong lower body control and extension, and confidence with floor work and inversions.

This team is an extension of the Junior and Teen Teams, providing a higher level of training and choreography within each age group. Placement is based on execution of these skills and a commitment to working hard and staying focused in class.

HIP HOP TEAM (grades 4-12)

Dancers looking to find their groove while developing musicality, rhythm, coordination, and confidence. Focus is on foundational hip-hop technique including groove, footwork, and basic floor work, along with performance quality and individual style. Commitment to working hard and staying focused in class is expected.

TAP TEAM (grades 4-12)

Dancers excited about making music who demonstrate strong musicality and the ability to execute and connect fundamental tap steps such as flaps, shuffles, paradiddles, and cramp rolls. Focus is on timing, rhythm, clarity of sound, and performance quality, along with a commitment to working hard and staying focused in class.
